COW (Centre of Well-being) is reimagining mental health support in Glasgow. We're building a space where professional therapy is integrated with café operations—not a therapy practice with a coffee machine, but a deliberately designed model where multiple elements support each other.

This integration allows us to rethink how mental health services are funded and delivered. By creating multiple revenue streams, we can maintain accessible pricing while ensuring sustainable business operations. Currently, we're testing whether this model can make professional mental health support genuinely available to people who currently can't access it.

WHY COW EXISTS

62% of UK adults believe therapy and counselling aren't accessible to everyone.¹ The barriers are clear: private therapy costs £70-120 per session, and NHS services are failing to meet their own targets.

In Scotland, 80% of people referred for NHS psychological therapy start treatment within the 18-week government target—meaning one in five wait significantly longer.² Even when people can access NHS support or afford private therapy, many avoid clinical settings that feel institutional rather than welcoming.

COW addresses all three barriers: professional therapy at accessible rates, without lengthy waits, in an environment designed to be approachable rather than clinical.
